SARA'S STORY
"I just couldn't get by without her," said Sara with a smile.
Ninety-one-year-old Sara lives in her own apartment, and she likes it that way. She lived there with Maury, her husband of 54 years, and it has plenty of good memories. Nearly every room is decorated with pictures of her two daughters, grandchildren and other loved ones.
Despite her seemingly independent lifestyle, Sara still needs help with small things: running errands, getting dressed, and taking care of small chores. Marina, Sara's caregiver through HomeCare Assistants of the North Shore, goes to Sara's apartment to help for a few hours five days a week.
When Marina visits Sara at her apartment, she makes the bed, brews the coffee, helps Sara with her stockings and sometimes just talks with her about what's going on their lives.
"It has enriched her life to have Marina because she's able to go out and do things," added Sara's daughter, Vivian. She has found a new friend. Having Marina around gives Sara and the family a feeling of extra security.
"What makes Marina special is TLC...tender loving care," says Sara. And with HomeCare Assistants, the TLC is delivered right to Sara's doorstep.
